Why isn't my business showing up on Google?

The five common reasons are: your site is not indexed yet; something blocks Google, such as robots.txt or a noindex tag; your pages are weak or duplicates; you are searching a term your page does not answer; or you are mixing up Google Maps with Google Search. Work through them in that order.

This page covers your website in Google search results, not your Google Maps listing. Work through the checks below in order.

First check: is your site indexed?

Start by finding out whether Google has your pages at all. Type site:yourdomain.com into Google. If pages appear, Google has indexed them. If nothing appears, treat it as a clue, not a verdict. Google says the site: operator does not necessarily return all indexed URLs, so it is a rough check only.

For a firm answer, use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console. Paste in a page address. It shows Google's indexed version of the page and why Google could or couldn't index it. It also lets you run a live test and request indexing.

Be patient with a brand new site. Google says it can take a few weeks for Google to notice a new site, and it does not guarantee that it will crawl, index or serve any page. Google also does not accept payment to crawl a site more often or rank it higher. Our guide on how long Google takes to index a new website goes into more detail.

Is something blocking Google?

Sometimes the site itself tells Google to stay away, often by accident during a launch or a rebuild. Check each of these in turn.

Thin pages that repeat each other also give Google little reason to show one over another, so look at your content once the technical checks are clear. You can run a quick look with our Site snapshot and check your crawler rules with our AI crawler robots.txt checker.

Searching your business name vs a service

A new site can show up for its own name before it shows up for a service search such as 'plumber Auckland'. Your business name is a specific term that few other pages match. A search like 'plumber Auckland' is crowded, and Google has to decide which pages best answer it.

So check which search you tried. If your page does not clearly answer the words you typed, Google has little reason to show it for them. Write pages that match what your customers actually search for.

Also remember that results differ between people. Time, location, language, device type, recent searches and a signed-in Google Account can all change what someone sees. What you see is not always what a customer sees.

Not on Google Maps? That's your Business Profile, not your website

Map listings come from a Google Business Profile. This is separate from your website. Work on your website and work on a map listing are separate jobs.

Google says adding and verifying a Business Profile lets customers find your business on Search and Maps, and that only eligible businesses can add or claim one. Use Google's own help to add or claim a profile. Trendi does not do listing work.

Not showing in ChatGPT or AI answers either?

If you are missing from Google, you may be missing from AI answers too. Our guide on getting mentioned in ChatGPT or Perplexity explains the basics, and our AI SEO services page shows how Trendi handles it.

Mentions and links are different things. An AI answer can name your business without linking to your site. Trendi tracks both across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude, and reports them separately. No tool or service can promise either.

FAQ

How long until my new business shows on Google?

Google says it can take a few weeks to notice a new site, and it does not guarantee that it will crawl, index or serve any page. There is no fixed answer. Check indexing with the URL Inspection tool in Search Console, and fix anything that blocks Google.

Why does my business show on my phone but not someone else's?

Search results differ between people. Google bases them on time, location, language, device type, recent searches and personalisation from a signed-in Google Account. When results are personalised, a "Try without" link at the foot of Google's results page shows them without personalisation. Location, language and device still apply.

Can Trendi fix it?

Trendi does the work: index checks, page fixes, content and a short weekly report. It costs USD $1,500 per month with a 3-month minimum, then month to month. For New Zealand customers, GST is added at checkout and on invoices. Trendi does not promise rankings, traffic or AI mentions, and it does not do Google Business Profile work.
